It was another amazing week in 1st grade! Students are so determined to work hard and do their best. We have been having wonderful conversations about being a bucket filler. Ask your child how they filled a bucket this week!
In math we are working on adding tens and ones. We are also practicing writing our numbers and adding with number racks!
In writing we read Farmer Duck. Farmer duck helped on the farm. Students wrote about how they help at home.
In reading we read and discussed Alma. It is a story about how a young girl got her name. We practiced talking with partners about a story. We also worked on our reading stamina and reading for 10 minutes independently.
Dodge Nature Center- We learned about soil and how important it is for our earth!
Snacks-
Your child may bring a snack to school each day. We do have peanut and tree nut allergies at our school. Please send nut free snacks! If you would like to donate any individually packaged snacks (think fruit snacks, goldfish, cheez-its, nut free granola bars etc...) we would greatly appreciate them. You can send them to school at any time. I always try to keep snacks on hand for students who forget during the morning rush. Thank you!
Toys: Please discourage your child from bringing any toys to school. I have started to notice toys and trinkets making their way out of lockers and into our classroom. Students know that, if something is not a talking piece that belongs in our circle-time basket, it will get taken away. It is always best to leave toys at home. We have so many fun things to play with in our classroom as it is! :-)
