THINGS TO KNOW:

Scholastic News Articles:

In your child's Take Home folder, you will find several issues of Scholastic News. Since we are a few issues behind and the new ones keep on coming, I sent them home as a way to rack up those Read-a-Thon minutes! Here are some ways for your child to make the most of them:
  • Click on this link to get to the Scholastic News website.
  • Under the "Subscribe" button, click on "log in as a student"
  • Use our classroom password: brig
  • Find the issue you're reading and explore the "read to me" function, watch videos, play accompanying games, and more!

Read-A-Thon:

Keep on helping your first grader track their minutes read at home and turn in reading slips on Mondays. The kids have been so excited to share how much they have been reading! You can use the pledge envelope or Read For My School app to gather pledges from family members and friends. Scan the QR code below to get started!

Halloween at Somerset:

At Somerset, we have two requests when it comes to the Halloween holiday at the end of the month.

1) All Somerset students will have the opportunity to wear their costumes to the Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 pm. We would love to see your costumes there. However, on Monday, October 31, we ask that you please leave your costumes at home and not bring costumes to school.

2) Please keep all candy and treats at home. In conjunction with our district wellness initiatives and a large amount of students with food allergies, we ask that candy not be brought for distribution at school. We will not be passing out individual food items to classes. Thank you!
