First Grade Update: Week of January 31st

 

What's Happening in First Grade?

Ask your child the following questions to hear all about our learning this week!

 

Writing: 

• How have you grown as a writer this year? 

Reading: 

• What happened in the story, "One Duck Stuck?"
• What happens when "Two vowels go walking?" Can you read the following words?
• boat
• team
• wait

Vocabulary:

• What do you know about the words zip, vanish, unseen, and terrified?

Math:

• What are the missing numbers?
• 6, 16, ___. 36, ___, ___?
• What number is in the tens place in 36?
• What number is in the ones place in 54?

Things to Know:

Project Fair: Mark your calendars and get your curiosity flowing - the Somerset Project Fair and STEM night,in partnership with the Works Museum, is coming on February 3rd from 6-8pm! This fun evening for kids of all grades and families will be a mix of hands-on STEM activities and the chance to display a project that YOU make.Projects can be about anything that gets you interested or excited: a science topic, a hobby, oran answer to a question you’ve always wanted to know. Lots of them use a tri-fold board like the examples below, but feel free to break the mold and get creative. Plus, you are welcome to attend and have fun whether you choose to make a project or not! **Please see this week's Somerset E-News for more information!

Conferences: Conferences will be from 3-8:30 on Tuesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 10. Here is the link to sign up!

Reading Volunteers: We are still looking for volunteers to read with our first grade Somerset Stars! If you are interested in reading 1 on 1 with students, please check out this signup genius link to set up a time! Thank you!

• Can you solve the following equations?
