Weekly Update: September 26, 2025

We had another great week in first grade!

Homecoming is next week at Two Rivers! Somerset will take part in the festivities by holding a Spirit Week Sept. 29 - Oct. 3. The students can participate in the following theme days:

Monday - PJ Day (...and Dodge!)

Tuesday  - Jersey Day

Wednesday - Hat Day

Thursday - Class Color Day--1st Grade Wears Black!

Friday - Warrior Gear

On Monday, September 29, we will be taking our first field trip to Dodge Nature Center from 11:45-1:30.  I know it is PJ Day…please make sure your child’s PJs will be appropriate for hiking outdoors. Also, please make sure they have tennis shoes and a jacket if necessary. We are looking forward to learning more about Trees!

The Book Fair is coming soon--October 8 - 14th! Please read the attached letter for more information. There is also a hard copy of this information in your child’s Friday Folder.

Fall Conferences are October 8th & 14th.  Here is the link to sign up if you haven’t done so already: Conference Sign Up. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you!

Background checks are required for all volunteers in District 197. That includes parent volunteers who go on field trips.  To get ahead of the game, I would suggest completing the Background Check Form right now if there is any chance you may volunteer this year! Then it is done. If you completed a background check last year, you need to complete a NEW one this year! Thank you!

Want to hear about our week? Ask your child the following questions:

Math: How many cubes do you see?

  • Can you read Mom Hid A Box to me? A paper copy of this book is in your child’s Take Home Folder. Have them practice reading this story at home!
  • What do you remember about these books?

Social Studies Update

Our Studies Weekly magazine focused on the essential question: Why do we have rules and laws? The students learned about why we have rules and laws at home, at school and in our classroom. Our Amazeworks book was Big Bob, Little Bob.  We  discussed stereotypes and how friendships can form across differences. Finally, we read and discussed the Scholastic News “Do You Have Good Work Habits?”.

Important Papers:
If you have not returned your emergency form, a new one will be in your child's Friday Folder today. Please return ASAP. Thank you!

Toys at School:
Please refrain from sending toys to school with your child. If they have any for an after school program, please remind them to keep them in their backpacks for the entirety of the school day. Thank you!

Library Books:
We have library time every Wednesday afternoon. Please help remind your child to return their books on Wednesday (or any day prior!) so they are ready to check-out books.

Important dates:
  • Sept 29 - Dodge Field Trip - 11:45 - 1:30.  Please let me know if you would like to chaperone! All chaperones need to complete a background check prior to volunteering. The district arranges and pays for this. You will need to fill out this short Background Check Form soon in order to go on this trip.
