Weekly Update: 12/10-12/15

Things to Know:

SPELLING: Here are our spelling words for the week! Our test will be on Thursday, December 14th. Two of the high-frequency words will be chosen as extra credit! (Hint: the words are there and together.) 😉

LET'S GET SOCIAL: It's no secret that social skills are crucial to the emotional and academic well-being of a child. It's also no secret that kids spend more time indoors than previous generations and technology has forever changed how we view the world and spend our time (not to mention how the modern-day, pinterest-inspired world has changed our expectations on playdates!) As you navigate this crazy road, it is helpful to know some common social and emotional changes that your child may go through as they continue to grow and develop as precious tiny humans. :-) Your little one is undergoing some major growth and development this year. This article outlines some common social and emotional tendencies of the first grade child and may be helpful to peruse over your morning coffee. (My personal favorite? Yardsticks by Chip Wood. I bust it out every year at about this time!)

GINGERBREAD HOUSES: The winter season is an exciting time for elementary students! It is a tradition at Somerset for first grade students to make gingerbread houses with their 3rd grade buddies. We are scheduled to do this on Friday, December 21st from 1-2 p.m. with Ms. Gardner's class.
Please visit this link if you are able to donate or attend! Thank you!

MYSTERY READERS: We have had SO much fun with our Mystery Readers this year! There are still PLENTY of slots open, so spread the word! We love to have parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins...all of our classroom family's special friends for a visit! Please click THIS LINK to sign up!

MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS: We will be visiting the MIA on Thursday, January 10th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. If you are interested in chaperoning this event, please let me know! We'd love to have you com
