Weekly Update: 2/19-2/23

Things to Know:

FIELD TRIP PERMISSIONS: This spring, first graders will be taking many exciting field trips. If you haven't already, please return the yellow permission sheet with $14.50 to cover the cost of admissions and transportation. Thank you so much!

READ ACROSS AMERICA: In the month of March, students at Somerset will be celebrating a love of reading. Read Across America is a nation-wide initiative to track and celebrate reading progress in honor of one of the most popular and prolific children's book authors, Dr. Seuss! Reading slips will be sent in Friday Folders this week and our first drawing will be on March 9th. See the dates below for spirit week information, too!

TOYS AT SCHOOL: Please discourage your child from bringing toys to school. While students are welcome to bring a toy during on their designated sharing time, they are expected to put it away immediately in their lockers for the remainder of the day.

SILENT AUCTION: Come one, come all to Somerset's Silent Auction at Dodge Nature Center! It is the school's largest fundraising and social event of the year. The auction will be held at Dodge from 6:30-10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th. Hope to see you there!

FOOD DRIVE: The annual Somerset March food drive is coming! It runs from Monday, March 12 to Thursday, March 22. Our goal is 1,200 food items. Here are some helpful ideas of what is needed:

SOMERSET KINDNESS DAY: Students from Somerset Elementary School spent their Valentine's Day packing more than 300 sack lunches for the Sandwich Project and for a Matrix Housing Services pop-up homeless shelter at St. Stephen’s Church in West St. Paul! This activity encouraged students to celebrate kindness while giving back to community. Read the article, which is featured in the Southwest Review newspaper.
