Playing Catch-Up: October/November PHOTOS!

OH MY GOODNESS! I can't believe that I haven't blogged in over a MONTH. Yikes!

Time to catch you up on a whole lot of fun! Take a look below to see pictures from fall harvest activities, Halloween, and other fun stuff at Somerset:

Fall Harvest FUN!

Colten's pup, Sugar, came to visit! :-) She was a sweetie!

Woodcarving Presentation:

Mrs. Marvin brought us a special square dancing themed snack!

Square Dancing:

Art Adventures!

Joeseph's mother (Mrs. Kolb) and sister (Anna) came to visit!

HALLOWEEN!

4th Grade Buddies!

Learning Fun!

We reviewed common conventions, such as capitalization and punctuation. We learned about different types of punctuation marks: what they look like, when they are used, and how they are used! Students created their own punctuation journals to help them remember each mark. Take a look below!

We also began reading one of my FAVORITE classics, Charlotte's Web! This is a fantastic read aloud that helps support the new Common Core Standards. Students have been keeping "metacognition diaries" to help track their thinking during listening!

We also introduced new ways to make words during phonics practice: "fancy fingers," "hidden words," and "other handed" writing. Students were also introduced to special "rainbow sight word" books to help them learn common sight words.

We learned all about contractions using...paint swatches?! It sounds crazy, but it really helped us learn!

READ-A-THON FINALE!

We made our reading goals at Somerset! To celebrate, we had an all-school assembly, mystery reader (Mrs. Palokichuk!), and root beer floats! Luckilly, Mrs. Palodichuk visited our class before she was taped up to the wall. :-)

Our Star of the Week: Cegan!

No photo session is complete without a silly one...

Balance and Motion: Part 1!

We began a new unit in science! Students learned about what it means for an object to be in balance. We used counterweights to help objects such as paper crayfish, triangles, and arches on a balance point. Take a look!

Our Star of the Week: Nathan F!

WHEW! (...and to think that this was just a snapshot of our month!) I have truly enjoyed every single second and am looking forward to many more fun memories ahead!

Have a wonderful evening!
