Photo Update

Good evening, 2nd grade families!

This post is simply a quick photo update on all of the fun things that have been happening at Somerset lately. Take a look and enjoy! :-)

GO TWINS!

The Twins' organist, Sue Nelson, came to visit and perform to 2nd graders!

SPIFF pals went with us to the Wells Fargo History Museum!

Star Students and Mystery Readers!

Jump Rope for Heart:

Math Madness:
We learned about fractions, reviewed number sense standards, and learned about weight and capacity through our friend, The Gallon Man!

Tech Party Time:

Research Reports: Biography Writing

In Social Studies, students have been learning about famous Americans that have helped shape our country's history. They've been working on several reading, technology, and writing academic standards in the process. Awesome!

Research is tough work! :-)

Earth Day was on April 22nd!

We have been reviewing author's purpose and viewpoint this week. To really understand why authors write to persuade, we decided to work with the topic of caring for our earth. We read a very persuasive book, Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax," and decided to do some persuasive writing of our own! We also made something meaningful and beautiful out of a commonly thrown away item- the paper plate!

AND FOR THE MOST EXCITING PART?!?!? (Drumroll please...)

Warmer Weather = OUTDOOR LEARNING TIME! Yesss!

We played a silly game to review the 5 parts of speech. Students participated in a relay race to sort out nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs! They worked in teams to place the correct card in the correct hula hoop. (I'm an advocate for any learning activity that we can do outside when the weather permits!) ;-)

Students did a great job with nouns and verbs. We need to continue to practice adjectives and adverbs- the hoops were a mess!

In any case, we had a great time. Yay for spring!

Have a fantastic evening!
