Spring WON'T Spring! (...but we'll still have fun!)

This winter doesn't want to end...

Yes it goes on and on my friend!
Some people started thinking that it would be over soon,

but every day it snows some more and now it's almost JUNE!

This is one of many songs that we have been singing lately, and it could not be more true! Oh, well...

Even if spring won't spring, we still have been having a great time at Somerset! Here are some (long overdue) pictures from March and April! Enjoy!

We love to read! For "Read Across America Month" in March, we had many reading festivities, such as all-school "drop everything and read" time! Here we are dropping everything and reading at technology class:

We had several guest readers, as well!

We also wrapped up the month with a book character parade! Students dressed as a favorite book character for the day. Take a look!

Torben's father also stopped in on this day to share two furry friends! What a special treat!

Speaking of reading, we had some AWESOME mystery readers!

March Madness! A leprechaun came to visit! This sparked several "St. Patty's Day" themed activities, such as "shamrock" word sorts!

We kicked off our "How-To" writing unit by writing our own creative stories about how to catch a leprechaun! You can find our writing on display in our hallway. Here is an example:

We finished our lego engineering unit. We built measuring cars, car launchers, and hockey players. It was super fun to create and test our models!

MATH MANIA! We had a blast learning about geometric shapes:

Other random March/April fun stuff:

Our star students, Torben and Ella S!

Nara's beloved hampster, Binky, came to visit!

Happy Birthday, Finley!

Elsa and Madeline's WONDERFUL project fair display! Awesome work, ladies!

Compound word egg hunt:

WE ARE PUBLISHED AUTHORS! Here we are on the day that our A to Z books came in. Wahoo!

FIELD TRIP! Here we are learning all about hens, roosters, and chicks at Dodge Nature Center. It was a blast!

Why does everyone look so disgusted?

OH! I guess THAT is what happens after 23 first graders feed a rooster handfuls of corn. Way to take one for the team, Nico!

It was a super hands-on kind of day. Way fun!

I hope you enjoyed the photos. More to come soon!

Take care,
Mrs. B :-)
