Welcome to Mrs. Brignac's Class!

Hello Families!

Welcome to Somerset and Mrs. Brignac's class! I had such a great time meeting so many of you at Meet and Greet on Wednesday! You have been added to the email list for my class for 2025-2026. If you prefer not to have this email address on this list, or would prefer to have a different address added, please let me know.

Email is a very important part of our classroom communications. You will receive classroom updates and important announcements from me via email. You are also welcome to email me at any time with questions or concerns! I do my best to answer emails after school or within 48 hours.

News and Announcements:

 E-News and End-of-Day Forms

Please make sure you're receiving and reading the Somerset E-News each week. You'll find a link there to an end-of-day form for your child. Please fill this out as soon as possible so we can ensure every child gets home safely and correctly. Somerset E-News

Important Reminder

If your child attends SAC (School-Age Care) and you change their schedule, you must also let their teachers know. We are not notified of schedule changes by SAC.

Volunteer Opportunity: Library Checkout

We are also in need of a Library Checkout Volunteer to assist with our clssroom checkout. All necessary training will be provided by Stephanie Espinoza.

  • Sign-up: If you are interested in this position, please use this link to sign up: library sign-up.

Volunteer Opportunity: Friday Folder Volunteer

Right now, I am looking for a Friday folder volunteer to help get our students' folders ready for the weekend.

Responsibilities:

  • Come to the school anytime before 1 p.m. on Fridays.

  • Fill each student's folder with the necessary handouts and materials for the week.

This is a great opportunity for a parent who has a flexible schedule. It can also be a job-share between two parents, with each taking on the task on alternating weeks.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up

Drop-off and pick-up procedures for families are detailed in Mr. Quinn's Somerset E-News. School hours are 7:45-2:15pm. Drop off in the morning begins at 7:30am. I will be meeting our class out in the front of the school on Wednesday and Thursday next week. We will walk into school together by 7:40am to ensure that we have time for breakfast. I also walk the first graders out together at the end of every day to make sure we all get to the right spot.

Birthdays

In an effort to make birthday celebrations equitable for all students, our school policy requests that there are no snacks or gifts brought in to share with the class for your child's birthday. Each child will be celebrated in the classroom and over the morning announcements. Summer birthdays will be celebrated and announced as half-birthdays during the school year.

Breakfast

Breakfast is available free of charge for all students. On the first two days, breakfast will be delivered to first grade classrooms. On the third day, each student will have the choice of getting a school breakfast and bringing it to the classroom upon arrival at school. Time is allowed for students to eat breakfast prior to our morning meeting. Please have a conversation with your student about whether they will be eating breakfast at school or home.

Snack and Water Bottles

We do have a mid-morning snack after specialists. Students should bring a snack to school each day- an individually packaged item, or a snack placed in a small baggie or container. One snack item is enough. Students may also bring their own labeled water bottle for use at school.

Lunch

Your child can choose to eat a school lunch or bring lunch from home. All students are allowed one free lunch per day if you choose to have school lunch! School lunch choices include a hot entre or sandwich option. Lunch menus can be found on the Quick Links section on the Somerset E-News or on the District Website.

Friday Folders

Your student will bring home a green folder every Friday. Students should bring this folder back to school the following Monday. Student work, as well as classroom and school communications, will be sent via the green folder.

Schedule

Here is our class schedule in a nutshell:
7:30- Arrival/Breakfast
7:45- Morning Meeting
8:00-9:00 Specialists:
  • Monday: Art
  • Tuesday: Music/P.E.
  • Wednesday: Music/P.E.
  • Thursday: Music/P.E.
  • Friday: Science
11:00-11:25 Lunch

Seesaw

In addition to classroom updates and announcements via email, our class uses Seesaw as an important school to home communication tool. Seesaw provides a way for you to have a peek into our classroom with photos or videos of our work and activities. If you are not already connected to our classroom, please click on the link for the sign-up for families.

AmazeWorks

In Friday Folders this week, you will receive a letter about our AmazeWorks curriculum. We will begin the week of September 15, 2025.

TalkingPoints

One other method I sometimes use for quick and easy communications (examples: "Don't forget to bring your __ to school tomorrow!" or "Volunteers for ___ please meet at the office!") This will come through to your phone as either a text message or through the mobile app. All you need is a mobile phone to receive classroom announcements and messages from me about your first grader. You can reply back through either method. You can also reply with an emoji. ☺

The app is free and there is no charge if you have an unlimited texting plan.

I will send my first message out via TalkingPoints on the first week of school so be on the lookout for that!☺️

Star Student of the Week

We will have a "star student" in our classroom most weeks this year. The star student of the week will be a special helper in the classroom and will also have an opportunity to share a bit about themselves with the class. I will send home a star student poster for your first grader to fill out and decorate on the Friday before their week. They can bring a few pictures to display in the classroom too!
Please take a look below for the star student schedule to see when your first grader's week will be.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this information- I know it is a lot and I promise not all updates will be quite this lengthy. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with a wonderful group of firsties!
