Weekly Update (9/17-9/21)

Things to Know:

CHARACTER: Last week, we learned about how the word "character" not only means the person or animal in a story, but can also be used to describe the qualities that we as individuals have and share with others. This week, ask your child what these storybook characters learned about the following character traits:

We will continue our character education next week with traits such as compassion, consideration, honesty, respect, and generosity!

READING: Please make sure that your child is reading 15-20 minutes at home each night. Reading can mean many things: reading road signs as you're driving in the car, reading labels at the grocery store, reading ingredients in the kitchen, reading bedtime stories at night, and helping your child read "just right" books from the library or from home. Why is reading each night so important? Take a look:

LIBRARY: We will go to the library every FRIDAY morning before recess. Your child had his/her first library checkout last week! Please keep your child's new book somewhere near his/her backpack so it will be easy to find come Friday! :-)

FALL FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Looking for a fun family outing? Come to Somerset's Family Fun Night on Friday, September 28th! The festivities will begin at 6 and go until 8 p.m.

SHOE TYING: I will soon be retiring from my part-time job of "class shoe tying lady." ;-) Is your child still learning to tie shoes? This article has a great video tutorial on shoe-tying! (If over 6 million people have viewed the video, it must work!)
