Hello, families of first graders!
I am SO excited to begin another fantastic year at Somerset! I can't believe that this will already be my 9th year teaching in this wonderful community. Time truly does fly when you're having fun!
This blog is where I will do a majority of my weekly communication. Each week, you will receive an email with a link to the blog where you will find updates on what we've been learning, upcoming school events, and adorable pictures of our Somerset Stars!
For our first blog post of the year, I thought I'd share a little bit about myself. I recently moved to Inver Grove Heights with my husband, Bryan, and our son, Michael. After over a decade of living in Minneapolis, I am so excited to live closer to this fabulous school community! Bryan and I celebrated 7 wonderful years of marriage this past July. Here is a photo from our wedding day:
Let's not forget about Michael!
(Michael loves to read...I hope you do too!)
Michael is 2 1/2 years old and growing like a weed! We had so much fun over the summer together. We enjoyed plenty of parks, splash pads, and countless trips to the zoo...even a trip to Michigan to be a part of my best friend's wedding! You'll be hearing a lot about this smiley man this year. Michael loved time with his mama, but he understands that I have other kids that need me, too: my awesome students at Somerset!
This summer, we also tried to spend as many weekends as possible up at our family cabin in Eveleth, MN. There, we spent time swimming, pontooning, and enjoying the sunshine! Here is one of my favorite pictures of a sunset captured on Ely Lake:
Michael's favorite part of the cabin were his hazy, lazy naps on the pontoon.
I love August for many reasons. First, it is that time of year when I get absolutely giddy for the upcoming school year. I love to spend the month shopping around for fun classroom goodies, planning for exciting lessons, and prepping our classroom for the first week.
The second reason why I love August? It's my birthday month! This year, I celebrated my 33rd birthday on August 10th. We celebrated later on with family at the cabin. My brother also shares an August birthday, so we got to double up on the fun!
The third reason? Football season begins! In my house, we are big fans of football. Even Michael likes to cheer on the Vikes!
We are also BIG gopher fans! My husband and I both graduated from the University of Minnesota, where I spent four years in the marching band rooting on the football team:
In 2014, I completed my Master of Education degree at the University, as well.
*Whew* That's enough about ME. Now, I can't WAIT to get to know all of you! I look forward to many fun memories of all of the adventures we will experience together. I am looking forward to seeing you on our first day of school on Tuesday, September 3rd!
Take care and see you soon!

Thank you so much for sharing about you, your family and your summer adventures. I loved reading all about it, and of course, the pictures. We're excited for another great year of 1st grade. Eli is so excited about school, specially because he got you as his teacher 😊.
