Weekly Update: 10/8-10/12

Things to Know:

CONFERENCES: THANK YOU to those of you that attended conferences on Thursday! I enjoyed getting the opportunity to meet and discuss your child's progress and goals for the year. Our next round is on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to meeting with the rest of you!

FALL HARVEST FUN: You're invited! Let me know if you'd like to help with a station. :-) The more, the merrier! (Please note: We will be having a costume-free party. As much as I'd love to bust out my banana costume for the day, we have decided as a school to keep costumes as a fun, at-home tradition. Thank you for your understanding! We will still have an amazing time!)

STAY HEALTHY! It's that time of year...Colds and sniffles are all around and hand-washing is more important than ever! We have had a lot of colds and other viruses floating around our room for the past few weeks. Please take time to review some little tricks of the trade for keeping healthy:

LIBRARY BOOKS UPDATE: Developing lifelong readers is a delicate balancing act. It is important that kids are able to explore the words and pictures that interest them (regardless of text difficulty) as well as just right books that they can successfully read alone. Now that we've had a couple of check-outs under our belts, students are now able to check out ONE "Just Right" book and ONE "anything" book for a total of TWO library books. When you see your child's books this weekend, ask them about their choices and encourage them to read them with you. If the "just right" book does not seem to be a good fit, discuss with your child about what they can do next time to find a better choice. Thanks for all you do to foster your child's love of reading!

SNACKS: This is just a friendly reminder that, due to known peanut allergies in our classroom, please refrain from sending snacks that contain peanuts, tree nuts, or any peanut butter. Thank you for your support in keeping Somerset a safe space for all students!
