Weekly Update: November 21, 2025

Take a peek at our week:

Want to hear about our week? Ask your child the following questions!

Reading:

  • What happened in the beginning, middle, and end of Fritz and the Beautiful Horses?

  • Can you read this story with beginning blends (sk, st)?

Vocabulary:

  • What do you remember about these words?

Math:

Writing: The students listened to and discussed the story The Family Book.  They brainstormed a list of special people in their family and wrote about one of those people. They are working on generating their ideas and writing them on paper independently and using “Brave Spelling” when they don’t know a word.  I am modeling correct size letters, beginning sentences with a capital letter and ending with punctuation. Students are practicing these skills as they write.

Social Studies Update:

  • The students listened to and discussed the Scholastic News “A Weasel's Winter Trick” which discussed camouflage. Our Amazeworks book for the week was Days with Dad. Through our social studies curriculum, Studies Weekly, we learned about patriotism.

FUN STUFF:

  • On behalf of the Somerset PFG Read a Thon Committee and Raising Cane's, we wanted to send a huge congratulations to you and your incredible 1st grade students!

Your class achieved the highest average minutes read per student across the entire 1st grade! That is an amazing accomplishment and shows how much your students love reading.

As the top-performing class, your 1st graders have won the celebratory Chicken Finger & PJ Party, sponsored by Raising Cane's.

  • I am currently communicating with the PFG Read-a-Thon Committee on a date for this fun party!
