Take a peek at our week:
Want to hear about our week? Ask your child the following questions!
Reading:
- Can you tell me about McDuff and the Baby? What connections did you have with the book?
- Can you read this story with digraphs (sh, th, wh, ch)?
Math:
- What do you know about DOUBLES facts?
Writing Update: The students listened to the story Bats. We used this story as an example of good writing. They practiced finding the gist of the story (Who? Did what? When/where?) and we highlighted the topic sentence, important information, details and the ending sentence. Next, we read the story I Love Animals. As a whole class, we wrote the gist of the story. Then we picked out two pieces of information and details. We used all this information to write a paragraph about the story which contained a topic sentence, information and details and an ending sentence.
Social Studies Update: Our Studies Weekly magazine focused on Characteristics of Responsible Citizens: Equality, Fairness, Truthfulness and Respect. We discussed ways to solve problems when conflicts arise. Our Scholastic News Magazine was A Pumpkin as Big as You! Students listened to and discussed our Amazeworks book, Where are You From?

Easy Math Game to Reinforce "Sum = 10" facts:
Penny Plate is super fun! Using 10 pennies, your child will guess how many are hiding under the plate. (Example: 8 pennies are on top of the plate, so there must be 2 underneath, because 8 + 2 = 10)
Give it a try with your child at home:

Family Reading Night!
Join us on Thursday, October 30 at 5:30 pm for Family Reading Night! The minutes your child reads that night will count toward the school's Read-A-Thon totals. There will be Story Trails in the woods and stories around the bonfire. Hot dogs and apple cider will be available. You are welcome to wear a costume and bring your family for some reading fun. Ready to lend a hand or donate supplies for the event? Sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/msmnrxwv
Halloween:
On Friday, October 31 we will be doing fall-themed activities throughout the day. Students should leave costumes and candy at home. Please read below for more information:
1) Somerset students should not wear or bring costumes to school on Tuesday, October 31. All Somerset students will have the opportunity to wear their costumes to Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 26 at 5:30-7:00 PM. We would LOVE to see your costumes there! We also ask that costumes are appropriate, kid friendly and non violent.
2) Please keep all candy and treats at home. In conjunction with our district wellness initiatives and a large number of students with food allergies, we ask that candy not be brought for distribution at school. Thank you!
