First Grade Update: Week of December 6

In math we are focusing on "friends of ten". We are trying to get really fast at our facts to ten. In reading we are focusing on sequencing a story and we had a poetry review from the poems we have learned so far this year. In social studies we kicked off our mapping unit! We have just 2 weeks before winter break! We are making the most of these full weeks with lots of learning. Our class also has some fun activities coming up that we are looking forward to as well.

Gingerbread Houses- We are decorating gingerbread houses on Thursday, December 16th! Such a fun tradition in first grade. We can use your help! If you are able please sign up for an item to donate to help make this possible. We also need parent volunteers. We will start decorating after lunch. I could use volunteers from 12:30-2:00. 12:30-1:00 would be prepping materials and 1:00-2:00 would be decorating and cleaning up. If you are able to help with any of this please sign up here. Students can bring in materials at any time. I just ask that they are here by Wednesday, December 15 so I can pick up whatever else we need :)

SHHHHH Secret- I will be starting a Kindness Countdown to winter break. Starting Monday each day we will pull 1 chain link off our countdown and do, make, create, or share something special! Feel free to ask your child each day what we do! Monday will start with winter lights in our classroom and making snowflakes!

Important Dates-
  • Thursday 12/16- Gingerbread Houses (12:30-2:00)
  • Monday, December 20- January 2- Winter Break- note the date change. School will resume on Monday, January 3rd.

Have a wonderful week and as always please let me know if you have any questions!
