Weekly Update: March 30-April 3, 2026

Take a peek at our week:

Want to hear about our week? Ask your child the following questions!

Reading:

  • What facts did you learn about elephants? What are you still wondering about elephants?

  • Can you read the following words to me?

  • Can you read and spell these Super Words?
    • very
    • pretty
    • every
    • think

Vocabulary:

  • What do you remember about these vocabulary words?

Math:

  • Can you solve these problems?

Writing:

  • We started a unit on Opinion Writing. Using the book Growing Vegetable Soup as inspiration, students practiced building structured opinion paragraphs. Each writer crafted an opening opinion about their favorite food, supported it with three specific reasons, and wrapped it up with a closing statement. It was great to see their personalities shine through their reasons!

Social Studies Update:

  • Our Studies Weekly magazine focused on “Communication Over Time” where the students learned how communication has changed from long ago to today.  The Scholastic News was “What Goes Woosh?” The students learned about things that can blow in the wind. Our Amazeworks book was Our Moms.  We ended the week with an April Art Project -- raindrops and an umbrella!:)

Things To Know:

MINNESOTA SPRING IS HERE!

Rain, snow, heat, cold…It’s hard to know what kind of weather to expect this time of year! Thank you for helping your child select the right gear for being outside at recess every day.  If it is wet outside, please send boots with your child as the playground gets very muddy. This helps keep our classroom carpet clean! Thank you!

DODGE:

We will be going on our last field trip to Dodge on Tuesday, April 28 from 8:45 - 10:30. We will be learning about “Sounds of Nature.” Let me know if you want to help chaperone! If you haven’t completed a background check this year, it is required in order for you to chaperone. Here is the link: Background Check Form.  It’s a quick, easy process!

PROJECT FAIR:

Somerset Project Fair is coming soon! Thursday, April 30 - 6:00-7:30pm

Does your child have a passion, hobby, or burning question you've always wanted to explore? Showcase your curiosity by creating a project about anything that excites you — from science topics to creative ideas.  Come for a fun-filled evening of featured student projects and hands-on STEM activities! Kids of all grades and their families are invited to explore, create, and learn together.  Student projects from previous years: Solar panels, Planets, Sharks, Wildebeests, Climate Change, Lake Superior, Making Guacamole and more.
