We had another great week in first grade!
Want to hear about our week? Ask your child the following questions:
Math:
- What are your favorite addition strategies that we have practiced?
Reading:
- Can you read the following Super Words?
- do
- that
- was
- they
- Can you read Mom Hid A Box to me? A paper copy of this book is in your child’s Take Home Folder. Have them practice reading this story at home!
- What do you remember about these books?
Writing:
- How does a sentence begin? How does a sentence end?
- The students listened to and discussed All By Myself by Mercer Mayer. Together, we wrote a paragraph responding to the prompt, “Tell what Little Critter can do by himself.” Students then copied the completed paragraph, which included a topic sentence, three key details anda concluding sentence.
Social Studies Update:
We celebrated Kindness Week by meeting with our 3rd Grade Buddies in Mr. Kohnen’s class! The students created kind messages and drawings using chalk to decorate our sidewalks around the school.
THINGS TO KNOW:
Conferences:
Fall Conferences are October 8th & 13th. Because we have 25 students in our classroom, each conference is set for 15 minutes. To ensure every family gets their full slotted time, please help us stay on track by arriving on time. I look forward to connecting with you!
Book Fair is Coming!
The Book Fair is coming soon--October 8 - 13th! Our class will be shopping on October 8 at 9am. You can either send money with your child or put money in an ewallet for them. Book Fair information was sent home last week in Take Home Folders.
Toys at School:
Please refrain from sending toys to school with your child. If they have any for an after school program, please remind them to keep them in their backpacks for the entirety of the school day. Thank you!
Library Books:
We have library time every Thursday afternoon. Please help remind your child to return their books on Thursday (or any day prior!) so they are ready to check-out books.
Homework Schedule:
Background Checks:
Background checks are required for all volunteers in District 197. That includes parent volunteers who go on field trips. To get ahead of the game, I would suggest completing the Background Check Form right now if there is any chance you may volunteer this year! Then it is done. If you completed a background check last year, you need to complete a NEW one this year! Thank you!
Important dates:
Oct. 7 - Walk to School Day - More information will be coming from Principal Amy.
- Oct 8 - 13 - Book Fair
- Oct. 8 & 13 - Conferences
- Oct. 15 - 16 - No School - MEA
- October 29 - Picture Retake Day - If you child was gone on picture day or you would like them to retake their pictures, here’s your chance!:)
