Writing:

• This week the students listened to and viewed a nonfiction article about Abraham Lincoln. They went through the writing process of prereading for the GIST (main idea), determining what the prompt was asking them to do and picking ideas to write about. Then, together we brainstormed and wrote a topic sentence, ideas and details and a closing sentence. The students wrote the paragraph in their writing journals.

Social Studies Update:

• We celebrated the 100th Day of school! The students completed a variety of projects throughout the day related to the number 100. Our Scholastic News this week was “Fly High with Ida.” The students learned about Ida Smith who loved teaching kids about flying planes.

Hi There!

My name is Antigoni and I am the Ambassador from Mrs. Nelson's first grade class!  My job is to keep families in the loop when it comes to upcoming events and more grade level specific communications!  I wanted to reach out to you families of Mrs. Brignac's class to share some info about the upcoming Somerset Social that is coming up in March! Please see detailed info before!  We would love to see you there as well as at the Happy Hour at Union 32 Craft House beforehand.

The Somerset Social + Silent Auction is Somerset's biggest fundraiser of the year and an all around great time for parents to have a night out, meet more parents, have fun and support our Somerset Community!

 Mendakota Country Club

This fun, laid-back, Adult Only evening includes great food, activities, and time to connect with other Somerset families. There will be a Silent Auction with fantastic items and, new this year, live music led by one of our very own Somerset parents.

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, we’re encouraging everyone to wear a little green for a festive touch.

If you purchase your tickets by midnight on Sunday, February 15 and enter the code earlybird, you’ll receive a discounted rate.

 First Grade Meet-Up!
Before the Social, myself along with the other first grade ambassadors, are planning a casual meet-up for all first-grade parents at Union 32 Craft House in Eagan at 5:30pm. This will be a great way to connect before heading to the event! This is really just a fun chance for all of us to meet and make some new friends before heading over to the big event!
