Social Studies Recap:

Our Studies Weekly magazine focused on Geography of our Community (Mendota Heights). Students discussed and wrote about the physical and human characteristics of our community as well as the natural resources and population. Our Scholastic News was called “Who Made Up These Characters.” The students learned fun facts about the authors who created some of their favorite characters. Then, they created their own characters! Finally, our Amazeworks book was Love is in the Hair which teaches self-acceptance and pride in one’s heritage.

Things to Know:

Snack: Friendly Reminder

Please send your child to school with a healthy snack each day! Some parents have been generous and donated extras, HOWEVER once the extra snacks arrive, suddenly many students "forget their snacks" and the graciously donated snacks disappear immediately. For this reason, we will not have extra snacks any longer. If your child forgets a snack - don't fret! He or she is always able to grab a free breakfast from the cafeteria to eat at snack time. If you could kindly have a conversation with your child about how the snack that they packed is the snack that they should eat. :-) Thank you!

Food Drive:

Somerset’s Annual Book Character Parade:

This fun event is happening on March 21 at 1:00 pm. Your child may want to start planning what character they want to dress as this year. Costumes can be created with items from home--they don’t have to be store bought or elaborate! Have fun!

Sundaes and Storytime Class Party:

Donations were given at the Somerset Social for each grade level to have a class party! First grade will celebrate by making ice cream sundaes and enjoying a story while we eat. Our party will take place on Friday, March 14 during the school day.
