Writing Update:

The students continued nonfiction writing. They completed a “Who Am I” project where each student wrote facts about themselves. Later in the week, I read the facts and the class had to guess which classmate wrote it. Students enjoyed trying to figure out who was who!

Social Studies Update:

The Studies Weekly magazine focused on “Life Long Ago and Today”. Students learned how life today is different and similar to the past.  Our Scholastic News, “The Woman Who Planted A Million Trees”, taught the students about Dr. Wangari Maathai who spearheaded efforts to plant trees in Kenya.  Our Amazeworks book this week was Our Moms. This book shares the stories of four children whose mothers are incarcerated. We discussed making mistakes, consequences and feelings. 

     Things to Know: 

Rollerblading Permission Slip:

Somerset students will be participating in a Rollerblading unit from Monday, April 7 to Friday, April 18. In your child’s Take Home Folder there is a permission slip for your child to participate in this event. Please have your child return this slip by April 4th.

Dodge Field Trip: We will be heading to Dodge one more time this school year on April 29th for a ”Sounds of Nature” experience. We will leave Somerset at 8:45 and return at 10:25. Let me know if you would like to help chaperone!
