Get ready for a month of reading, fun, and friendly competition from October 15 to November 15!  Our Read-A-Thon is a fantastic way to support our school while encouraging a love of reading in our students. Our theme this year is How to Train Your Dragon.  To set up profiles for your child or children, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/3u4m4y63

Here's a sneak peek at what's in store:

Prizes, Prizes, and More Prizes! Students who participate are entered to win weekly prizes, and the more they read, the more they can win! We'll have prizes for individual achievements, and even bigger prizes for top-reading classrooms and grade levels, including awesome class and grade level parties!

Family Reading Night! Join us on Thursday, October 30 at 5:30 pm for Family Reading Night! The minutes your child reads that night will count toward the school's Read-A-Thon totals. There will be Story Trails in the woods and stories around the bonfire. Hot dogs and apple cider will be available. You are welcome to wear a costume and bring your family for some reading fun. Ready to lend a hand or donate supplies for the event? Sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/msmnrxwv

Let's make this our most successful Read-a-Thon yet!

Kindness Update from Ms. K:

Easy Math Game to Reinforce "Sum = 10" facts:

Penny Plate is super fun! Using 10 pennies, your child will guess how many are hiding under the plate. (Example: 8 pennies are on top of the plate, so there must be 2 underneath, because 8 + 2 = 10)

Give it a try with your child at home:

THINGS TO KNOW:

BACKGROUND CHECKS:

Background checks are required for all volunteers in District 197. That includes parent volunteers who go on field trips.  To get ahead of the game, I would suggest completing the Background Check Form right now if there is any chance you may volunteer this year! Then it is done. If you completed a background check last year, you need to complete a NEW one this year! Thank you!

BOOK FAIR IS HERE!

Our class will be visited the book fair on Friday, Oct. 10 at 10:00 a.m.
Star of the Week:
We have enjoyed learning about our classmates through "Star of the Week!" When your child is an upcoming Star Student, you will find a letter and poster in your child's Friday Folder with more information. I will only have students be a Star of the Week when we have 5 full days of school during the week (shorter weeks will be skipped). Here is our Star of the Week schedule:

Toys at School:
Please refrain from sending toys to school with your child. If they have any for an after school program, please remind them to keep them in their backpacks for the entirety of the school day. Thank you!

Library Books:
We have library time every Wednesday afternoon. Please help remind your child to return their books on Wednesday (or any day prior!) so they are ready to check-out books.

This Wednesday is TREASURE CHEST day!
